I Am Not a Middle-Aged Woman

This title is not meant to be a knock on anyone at all, just merely a thought that occurred to me many times during the day today. I promise I will explain a bit more on that later in the post. And sadly, I don't think I will ever really know what it is like to be one.

The suggestions of the day was given to me by Briana who said I should try to get on a morning television show here in New York. Since I don't have enough street cred yet to be ON a show, I settled for trying to be viewed on a show. Maybe someday soon, though, I'll be invited as a guest on a show. That would be awesome. If anyone knows anyone who knows anyone who could make this happen, I would put you in my Fav Five AND top friends on facebook. Sidenote: I always thought the top friends app on facebook was such a mean program. Equality people. Equality.

Since I kind of have a crush on Natalie Morales (don't tell my girlfriend), I decided I wanted to get in the crowd of the TODAY Show. I spent the night before prepping a sign worthy enough of national television, and came up with something that I thought would help catch the eye of some people (it did), and then tried to get to bed early because my alarm went off 5AM. Ohhh goodness I haven't been up at 5 in the morning since college, but that was a Friday night going into a Saturday, with no sleep until after 5AM. The body just doesn't work as well as it used to. Anyway, I wanted to make sure that I was out there early enough to get a good spot in the front row. I also walked by the Good Morning America set, and there was no one there but a couple of mimes. Sorry Diane Swayer. As a person in my early 20's who loves to sleep in, I thought if I get there at 6, I'll be first in line because no one likes getting up that early and waiting right? Wrong. Middle-aged women do. I was 25th in line when I got there, and was the only male/person under 35 (maybe 40). This show is not really targeted at my demographic huh?

Luckily for me, I ended up with the best seat in the yard. One of the first segments they did
outside, was literally right next to me and my sign. I had a good 2 minutes of direct airtime. I
even got to talk with big Al Roker and Matt Lauer. Matt was super friendly and nice. Al was okay. I think he got annoyed with me when I asked for a photo. I mean look at that expression. Joy? Sorrow? Thinking about the weather? I think it's the latter.

Each time Matt came out to the courtyard, all the women went crazy. It was like someone had
just announced a 75% off sale at Kohls. During the next segment is when the star power came out to play, and once again, I couldn't help but realize I am not a woman. This blonde lady came out into the courtyard, and all of a sudden EVERY person around me began calling out and snapping pho-togs of her. Who was
this woman? I had to get the scoop from these lovely ladies next to me. They were from Minnesota on a trip up and down the East Coast, and told me how Bret Favre was the man (we will see), and then told me this lady in front of us was on the show The Biggest Loser and now was on some daytime soap opera. And apparently, she is baaaaaaad news on the show. As she put it, her character "gets around", and then there was something about she had a kid but it was swapped at the hospital and she was given the wrong kid and then her fake kid died and she was sad but didn't know her real son was alive or whatever. There may have been something about aliens and viagra in that story too I couldn't quite wrap my mind around it. I lost interest because Juan Martin Del Porto, the new U.S. Open Tennis Champ, came walking out with his freakin trophy, along with Tiki and Ronde Barber! Awesome! This is when I started taking photos, while most people around me had no interest in the tall Argentinean. Again, see title. Either way you look at it, I would say I got my money's worth for getting up at death:30 in the morning and waiting outside for a couple hours. Back to you, Matt and Al. And Natalie.

So the day is done right? Nope. As I'm heading home to take my self a nappy nap, I get off the subway by my apartment and see they are filming a movie on my block. And they just started shooting. And I can watch from across the street. Rock on. It was some movie with Drew Barrymore, Ron Livingston (best known for Office Space and Band of Brothers), and the 'I'm a Mac' dude. I got to act all paparazzi like and take a picture with my click click click click camera. Check them out!

Some other random notes real quick. It looks like I am going to a part of a documentary. I had coffee today with a woman doing a documentary on how the recession is changing the life plans of New Yorkers, and she wants me in on it. Saweeet. She will be following me around this week and filming my life over the next month or so. The thing about it though, is it won't be shown here, but rather in Brazil (shout out Diogo!), so if you pick up any Brazilian channels let me know!

Also, you will notice on the right side a poll. You all can now vote on what suggestions you really want to see me do. For the first week, I just picked them because it was easier, but now you can pick them out. The top vote-getters will be the suggestions I do, so vote early and often.

As always, follow along on twitter, send in your suggestions so they can be in the poll each week, and let your friends know about this. Have a good day. If all goes to plan, the next 4 entries should be preeeeeetty interesting...

  1. Yay! It worked!! I so wish I could have been watching rather than at work all morning - but good job getting there early and getting on camera! I'll keep brainstorming... :)

  2. Thanks for mentioning the right-side poll. I read your blog through the RSS feed, and the poll doesn't show up unless I come to the site itself!
